Abstract: The Australopapuan microhylid genus Choerophryne was known until now from five species occurring almost exclusively on the eastern half of New Guinea. Descriptions of these species were based on only few specimens, and after their description no or only a few additional specimens were found. On the basis of more than 50 additional specimens, collected in the years 19982003, four new species of this secretive and poorly known genus from north-western Papua Province, Indonesia, are described in the present paper. Morphological, bioacoustic and molecular data, as well as comparisons with all previously known species of this genus, confirm the validity of the new descriptions. The occurrence of four new Choerophryne species, at least three of them in high population densities, and from western New Guinea, increases our knowledge of this genus substantially [Acta Zoologica Sinica 54(4): 653674, 2008].
